Hope Team East Association

the project

Over 140 people with illnesses followed-through and many sporting challenges achieved in 4 years as well as raising awareness to over 5000 people.

The association created in 2015 ,recognised as being of general interest and presided over by Stéphanie Geyer Barneix along with Alexandra Armand Le Mouël accompany people during and after treatment of chronic illness, through sport, to a better way of living.

Each Optimist takes up a sporting challenge (over the course of at least one year) with the aim of rebuilding self-confidence and bringing their friends and family along on the adventure.

On a broader level, the association is a key sports-health player due to its prevention and awareness-raising measures about the benefits of sport and the lifestyles and values related to it (mental and physical preparation, nutrition and well-being).

A WOMAN’S RESILIENCE,

Stéphanie GEYER BARNEIX

AN EXTREME ADVENTURER, 4 TIMES SURVIVOR OF BREAST CANCER, ACCOMPANIED BY 3 WORLD CLASS PADDLERS.

At 46 years old, world champion in coastal lifesaving, Stéphanie is an adventurer of the extremes with the North Atlantic paddle crossing in 2009 and then Cape Horn in 2015. But moreover, having overcome breast cancer 4 times, she is an adventurer of life. She accomplishes these expeditions with other professional athletes.

Selfless, optimistic and committed, she created the association Hope Team East in 2015 with the objective of helping people who are ill to live better through sport.

There’s nothing more exhilarating than to challenge yourself, explore new territories, exceed your limits and to bring all those who want to believe in their dreams along with us on this fantastic adventure!

To challenge oneself gives meaning and motivation to those who are fighting illness. Stephanie has pushed herself to the limit on each crossing as if it were her last. She has confronted the difficulties to show that nothing is impossible.

Her resilience has enabled her to go the whole way on her expeditions despite her state of health, because for her, giving up was inconceivable.

In creating the association Hope Team East, she has allowed so many people living with illness to hang on to a sports challenge in preparing for it mentally and physically. These people of all ages, whilst focussing on the aim of their challenge, rediscover their bodies through this preparation whether physical or mental. For some, these challenges have sparked the commitment and support from their families, friends or work colleagues all throughout their preparation.
